Old Nonsense Journal Page

Hello everyone! I hope you had a lovely weekend! We have a winter wonderland here again and it is beautiful outdoors. I hope the cold will stay for a while so that the snow remains and doesn't turn into slush.

It is Monday and this week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog we have a Be Square theme. Lots of fun options with this theme! I am looking forward to seeing what everyone will be creating. Don't miss our wonderful guest designer Autumn Clark, aka SewPaperPaint

I decided to work in my square Dylusions journal this week and also used a whole bunch of different square stencils by StencilGirl. The other day I was looking through one of the first mini-books I made, from long before I started sharing things online, and came up on this quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson. I always liked that quote and thought it would be great on an art journal page, especially now at the beginning of a new year.

Sorry, no step photos this week, I've had to work a little quicker than normally with my projects during the Christmas holiday.

Working on a page covered with gesso, I first applied Dina Wakley's Lemon and Cheddar paints with a palette knife. Before the paint dried completely, I used two differently sized square stencils and rubbed paint off with a slightly moist cloth. I got a fun surprise then because it turned out that I hadn't applied a full coat of gesso to the page (it was gessoed weeks ago), and there were areas without gesso, to which the paint stuck, creating a cool texture.

These larger squares at the top kind of looked like windows to me. The smaller black squares were done with the Grid Outline stencil, while all the other squares come from a stencil set of three called MBs Grid Stencils. All the square/grid stencils are designed by Mary Beth Shaw.

I just love this Finding Your Tribe stencil by Carolyn Dube, it has such a happy feeling to it and I like all the silhouettes of women. They were sponged with Ocean and a little Black. I also added a faint square frame at behind them, using the largest squares from the Grid Stencils set.

The women run on an orange road, and of course there are even more squares. The stamping was done with Tammy Tutterow's Dear Ruby stamp.

The stencilled words also come from the Finding Your Tribe stencil.

To break up all the squares, I also used some circles, done with the Grindstone stencil. I also used a new Simon Says Stamp Clipping Heart die, from the Hey Love release.

More words and textures. I was planning to remove squares in the orange part at the bottom too, but Leo woke up from his nap and once I got back to the page, the paint was almost completely dry.

A closer look at the quote. Isn't it great?
